Good morning, everyone!
So, I had really good intentions yesterday. My brain said "hey! you've done this newsletter thingie every day now for 26 days - you CAN make it to the end of the month!!"
And then, life happened, as it tends to do from time to time, and the next thing I knew, it was dinner time (thank you, hubby!) and I just did not get back on track to get this done. But that is the joy of being the boss. It was my decision. End. of. story. ;-)

What did I do instead? LOL - I watched the latest Yellowstone, and then Joe Pickett. Love Yellowstone - it's my guilty pleasure and the season finale is this weekend - FAR too soon for me. If you ARE a fan - who's your fave character?

So I was planning on giving the wrists some much-needed rest today, but yeah, like that happened. Um nope. So I figured as long as I was working, might as well get the newsletter out today, too ;-)

On a personal note, I always find the time of the year a bit disconcerting - some businesses are closed and taking a break, while others are going gung ho to get a jumpstart on the year.

Some people are loving the extra time with family...and others?
Not so much...
The most common issue that I hear from others that are self-employed - especially us homepreneur-types - is that the relatives don't understand or don't approve of what they do for a living.
I get that. Totally.
There was a time in my life when that really bothered me until my mother told me one day (I was 50+ and owned a very successful consulting business at the time) that she had always considered it a 'personal indictment' of her 'life choices' that I chose a career in business, instead of 'following in her footsteps', as a full-time housewife.

Nothing wrong with choosing that path except that her opinion totally ignored the fact that I am a human being with my own interests, talents and goals...
|
Oh and did I mention that she was unhappily married? And just generally....unhappy?
Yep, that was the path that I wanted to take....and truthfully, was on for a while until I made other choices....
But, as I later came to realize - my mother's unhappiness with my life choices really had very little to do with mine and everything to do with hers - and more to do with the paths NOT taken than the path she wound up on.
|
You see, as an entrepreneur in the midst of family and friends we are very often an uncomfortable reminder of the risks not taken, the opportunities ignored, the safe decisions that were made instead. While we may flounder from time to time - the very fact that we are NOT doing the expected 9-to-5 corporate gig is a constant reminder to others that their dreams are still just that - dreams - while we are out there trying to make ours a reality.
|
So, the next time a friend or relative makes a snarky comment about that 'interweb thang you got going on', just laugh and shrug it off, and know where that comment is REALLY coming from.... that place in the shadows where their dreams are still waiting for someone to bring them out into the light.
That place where ours get to play every day. ;-)

I am trying to spend the next few days wisely - giving my wrists some much-needed rest, but some serious clean-up work on my websites (a couple of new projects launching in Q1), and utilizing some of the great plugins I picked up since August, that I have not used yet, because I KNOW I my organic traffic is growing and I am not taking full advantage of it. My lead magnet is down right now because I need to upgrade it and I would rather have NONE right now than a bad/outdated one. New one live next week!
