Today I am looking out at beautiful blue skies - it looks like summer actually, well, except for the mounds of leaves blowing all over the place (we have 5 acres - there are ALWAYS leaves blowing all over) - but the shocker is when you step outside and the icy wind smacks you in the face. Yes, winter is not far away, no matter how much I try to ignore it.
And neither is Christmas - although Santa Claus looks a LOT like the Amazon delivery truck this year!! TRUE STORY: Last Friday, we ordered a gift for one of the grandkids - Amazon's site said it would be 3 to 5 days delivery time, and we were expecting it to arrive Tuesday or Wednesday. So imagine our surprise when we returned from the concert Friday evening to find it sitting by the front door.....Amazon delivered it less than 6 hrs after we ordered it! I can't even get their grocery deliveries that quick!

Now THAT is service - although I suspect that Bob misses the days of trying to hunt down the 'impossible to get' gifts that his boys always had to have ;-)

And now to continue with the topic we started in yesterday's newsletter:

1) How do you make the decision of what to pursue in the first place
|
2) How do you know when you need to deviate from your plan?
Yesterday I tackled Question #2...and as promised - here's my response to #1:
This decision involves research - lots of it - and analysis, and a wide variety of things go into my analysis process - everything from Etsy research to heart and soul!
|
First and foremost - I am going to contradict something that most coaches will tell you: Follow your passion and the money will follow.
Personally, I have NEVER found that to be true, and I know way too many folks with failed business ventures that learned this lesson the hard way.
While it is important to not HATE what you are doing - falling so much in love with your product that you ignore the fact that you are the ONLY one who is in love with it - is definitely a path to failure. And yet - that is exactly what many online entrepreneurs do - doggedly try to find an audience to fit their product - when one really does not exist...

Instead, follow your audience's passion....
So, my research for the coming year focuses on finding new ideas and concepts, as well as variations on products that are already selling well - both my own and others. I will do SEO/keyword research to find my competitors - not just in the PLR space but also those that are focused on selling to consumers, physical products, Amazon etc. I will check Google shopping, office supply stores, and of course, Etsy and eBay. Pinterest and FaceBook ads are a gold mine of information!

The key is to find products that are selling and put your own spin on them - elevate them a step above the current generation, make the customer's experience better, richer, more fun! Find your inspiration in your competition - but always remember that your end product should be YOURS, and not just a re-hash of someone else's ideas.
That is NOT easy, I know, but it does make for a successful business ;-)
The final part of the process is more personal, as I DO want to have fun and enjoy my business - so the last step in my decision-making process is this: my research will be done in the next couple of weeks, and then I put it away for a week. I will come back to my notes the week between Christmas and New Year so that I can look at everything again with a FRESH EYE!! The ideas and concepts that still catch my attention are the ones that you will be seeing in Q1!!
The fun part is that after spending all that time on research, fact-finding, and data-gathering - the actual decision-making process will be done in a few hours.
But no matter what your process may be - this is the critical piece to success: MAKE A DECISION AND TAKE ACTION!!

You can always change your path later, but nothing will happen until you take this first step and simply make the decision.
|
Because the bottom line is this: no matter how great your ideas are, no matter how talented you are - until you make that first decision - nothing will happen. And if nothing happens....you make no money.
|
