I hope this finds everyone alive and well and enjoying some nice weather! Yesterday was a wonderful day - it started out with seeing one of our local does and her hours-old fawn in the front yard! If you have never seen one, they are not much bigger than a large cat at birth, but grow incredibly fast the first 3 weeks, and then slow down at that point. So beautiful and so spunky already, as they bounded off together to the woods behind our pond.
Then, I pretty much played hooky yesterday, going to an outdoor art festival, SummerFair, with the hubby, and although it was kinda strange being at a big event for the first time in a year, it was also really nice to see one of our fave events live this year. The other big event, Taste of Cincinnati, was canceled for the 2nd year, and that was sorely missed. Hopefully, it will be back next year but there has been no announcement yet. We have been trying to get out and do a few things before Bob's surgery - I am sure that he will recover well and quickly, but I also know that it will be a few weeks before he can be out in crowds and uneven terrain, and our summer events season is fairly short here so doing what we can, while we can!

And of course - it was 85 and humid yesterday and I basically melted halfway through the show.

And on to biz stuff...
I received quite a few emails this week asking about the 'snail mail' course that was being heavily promoted this week, because (of course) it sounded so easy and so effective...the truth of the matter is, snail mail is not cheap, and unless you REALLY know what you are doing - it should not be attempted without the assistance of a professional consultant.
The truth is that the average mailing piece has about 6 seconds to catch the potential customer's attention - that is about how long it takes for the average person to pick a piece out of the stack and scan it while tossing it in the garbage. A GOOD campaign will get a 1% to 2% response rate...and when you add in the cost of the design, printing and postage - the cost can easily be over $1.00 per piece mailed, and chances are it will be closer to $2.00 if you do a real sales letter. That is not per response - that is per piece mailed!! And if you are buying a list - count on your list rental being at least $500 - and that is a RENTAL, meaning you can usually only mail to the list one time.

And to get a decent response you need some SERIOUS copywriting skills. And unlike email - if your response sucks, you cannot do some quick A/B testing without spending more money...a lot more money...
|
For most of us in the IM space, including the low content space - snail mail is not a realistic option. There are some exceptions to this though: If you are selling services directly to EXISTING business owners - as opposed to the "I want to make money online" niche, especially if they are local, or if you work with churches, schools, or realtors. These are niches that you can get into with less upfront cost because it is easier to build your own list - and truthfully, small businesses are more likely to buy from other local business owners.

We have worked with local churches and schools in the past and found that getting a few coil-bound planners printed locally, and sending to a few key local churches got a good response. When working with schools and churches - it's best to send your samples to the district or regional offices, rather than to each local entity, since they rarely have the ability to approve a fundraising campaign on their own.
Schools can be a great fundraising opportunity - every sports team, band and cheer or spirit squad usually has multiple events during the year - calendars and planners are something different, and something that will actually be useful.

So, my answer is that yes, snail mail can be a good tool - but to do it right, you need some serious bucks and some crazy mad copywriting skills. It is not for newbies or peeps on a budget. And yes, I spent my $20 to get the FE, and this is exactly what the course is about, so unless you have at least $1k just to dip your toe in the water, stick with email for now!!

OMG!! After two weeks+ of trying to resolve this issue with OpenSea and MetaMask, they finally admitted that an issue with the system was sending the txn through at an impossibly low price and so it was basically stuck in the system!! It was apparently fixed yesterday and last night I was able to initialize my account, so we are getting closer to getting this project launched!! Don't forget to send in your VERY brief (like 2 or 3 line bio with your URL etc) to [email protected], with NFT in the subject line.
Any other email address is not under the same scrutiny and your email could be missed!
