After the kerfluffle earlier this week over a recent course released on wall art, and the usage of graphics from CreativeFabrica, I thought I would take a few minutes to create an example of the wrong way and the right way to utilize their graphics.

Now, before I start - a couple of folks wrote in to tell me that I was wrong, and that CF allows the use of their Print-On-Demand images (POD) unchanged and that the course creator was correct....but sorry, folks, that is NOT what the course was referring to. They were referring to the general use graphics, not POD. Apparently, they also made a similar mistake regarding PixaBay images, and blamed it on Pixabay, stating that it must have been a recent change. Nope, sorry, again - you can visit their site and see that the TOS/license was last revised March 2020

We have gone through this several times in our various workshops but for those new to this space, in a nutshell: Unless an image is labeled for POD use on Creative Fabrica, you MUST make substantial changes to the images before using on a product that you intend to sell. You cannot sell an 'unflattened' (PSD) version of the image and all images must be flattened so that no image can be extracted from the image and used on its own.
The example of our scuba diving kitty, above on the left, is great for my newsletter header or my website, but I could not put it on a t-shirt or pillow 'as is' because it does NOT have POD rights on CF. However, by adding the additional graphics behind and over it - bubbles, background, fish, and seahorse - I have now created a composite image that is unique from the original stand-alone kitty. It is very difficult to extract any single element from the graphic. THIS is okay to use on a commercial for-sale product.

The bottom line is that you must create an end product that combines multiple elements and a bit of your own imagination to create a new product -
and that is really the whole point anyway, right??

Ok, I admit, I have not had a chance to review this product since it is for a series of live classes starting next week - but given the topic and the people putting it on - I HAD to pick it up, and I intend to find time to attend these!
