My PSA this Week.....Scams on FaceBook....
|
I am a 'meanie beanie' when it comes to fraudsters! I truly cannot stand people that send those fake emails congratulating you for winning the Microsoft lottery or whatever idiotic thing they come up with on a daily basis. But as a general rule - those are so incredibly bad that I doubt that anyone really falls for them.
|
But this week, I was contacted via Facebook messenger by a 'woman' name Wyatt Carolina Jane - although interestingly, the profile is under another name - https://www.facebook.com/robert.dews.54
|
By IM, this person stated that I was among 12 finalists in the Facebook lottery which was FB's way of 'giving' back to their members to celebrate their 18th birthday. She then proceeded to send me a pic of her Facebook employee badge - which she promptly deleted LOL
|
Now, I love engaging with these people because I want them to dig the hole as deep as possible before I report them - and this one really did. The story changed as the messages continued - it's why I never lie - I am too busy to keep track of the details LOL BUT....this is the disturbing part of all of this....
I reported her to FaceBook - and 3 days later the profile is still live - and she is STILL messaging me, trying to convince me that she is legit. And she has gotten belligerent and insistent, and nasty.

I can see why some people might actually think it is real based on the PERSISTENCE of this individual - but it is a SCAM!!!
|
Sadly, if you check around - you will see that there are LOTS of people that have sent in their photo IDs and money ($300 to cover the processing fees!). And most of these folks are older, and not as well versed with online security and scams as we are.
So if you are spending time with your family this week - make sure everyone knows that Facebook does NOT give away any money and if they did - they would NOT be contacting you via IM. They would reach out to you by their support inbox system!!
