Well, yesterday's column about pricing strategies - or more specifically, keeping your pricing hidden from your potential customers - definitely seems to have hit home. Bottom line? There is another trend that is also gaining momentum, and you have probably heard about it: Quiet Quitting. This apparently started on TikTok, with a viral video that has gone on to garner millions of views, with the Tiktoker explaining what quiet quitting is: A rejection of hustle culture and a reclaiming of work-life balance.

The Quiet Quitting mindset is basically what we used to refer to as a "9 to 5er" - the folks in the office that watched the clock all day, took their breaks on time, ate lunch at 12 noon and we saw their tail out the door at exactly 5pm. The same people that left the big project due tomorrow for the rest of the group to finish.

it's nothing new - it's just getting more playtime thanks to social media.
|
While I applaud the concept of work-life balance, the reality of doing 'just enough' to not get fired will always keep you exactly where you are. If you can live comfortably at that income level (and most of this movement is at the entry-level corp jobs), then that is great. If you want to have 6 roommates so you can spend every evening and weekend hiking and biking, more power to you.
|
But most of us that are self-employed took this path to do more with our lives in the first place, and for us, that 'quiet quitting' mindset can be terminal.
There is a LOT of competition online, and we DO need to hustle to stand out from the crowd.
I work hard, and often start waaaay before 9am and end waaaaaaay after 5pm. But I also take time in the afternoon to go out for a late lunch/early dinner and a movie with the hubby, never miss my grandsons' football games and control my own work/life balance to what suits me.
It took work to get to this point - it did NOT happen overnight - but without that 'hustle culture' mindset?
It would NEVER have happened.
So to everyone reading this today - kudos to you for being part of the Hustle Culture. We make things happen.
