Oh. My. Goodness. Just when I was kinda getting used to being on Facebook - along comes the new @Everyone tag.
|
Well actually, it came out a while back but it's been apparently released in phases - or maybe people just started discovering it? But whatever the case -over the last few days, I had noticed that I was being tagged a LOT more by people that I really don't know. A. LOT. more.
So this morning I spent a few minutes looking through these alerts and goodness! There were a lot of VERY upset people complaining about the use of the @everyone tag.

but that was as a Messenger shortcut.
|
The original concept, according to the FB dev team article above was to allow a quick and easy way to get the attention of everyone on a group chat or Facebook group for special announcements, reminders, etc.
|
In late May, articles started popping up about @everyone being used in groups, first in beta and then more broadly rolled out.
|
Yep, you know what happened next...apparently, it has suddenly become very popular or maybe simply better known (?) - I really don't know what triggered this - but suddenly there was a lot @everyone tagging happening and a lot of peeps were not too happy about it!
|
Personally, I had been @everyone tagged in 12 different groups between last night and this morning. It was a bit baffling until I saw the complaints and then it was actually funny!
|
Here were all of these 'marketing' people complaining about a new marketing tool that people were using to market to other group members.
|
Pretty sure that there are going to be some serious restrictions placed on this tag soon but in the meantime, if you find you are getting tagged and don't see any mention in the post - this is probably what is happening.
