And it is already Hump Day - how did that happen??

I have for some odd reason, over the last few weeks, lost all track of what day of the week it is. I admit that I have had a somewhat tenuous grasp of the concept for the last couple of decades since I have been self-employed since 1992, but I realized the other day that it gets worse when the TV shows that I watch in the winter go on summer hiatus, and suddenly my 'indicators' for the days are gone....if I watched Blue Bloods last night - today is Saturday. If it was Chicago PD...then today is Thursday....

Sigh...by the time I get the summer shows figured out, they will be gone so it's not even worth it. So until then...thank goodness for that auto date in the corner of my iMac LOL

As I mentioned a couple of weeks ago, and as we have discussed on some of our recent Zooms, there is more and more evidence that the recent IOS Data Privacy updates are breaking our third-party cookies - those cookies that tell a vendor that we made the sale and are due a commission, and that same cookie that tells the Vendor that the customer deserves the bonus that inspired them to make the purchase!

TBH - it was the bonus issue that really first made a few of us realize that something was happening that was beyond just a seasonal or recession-related dip in business.
|
It became apparent that there was more going on when customers started reaching out because bonuses were not showing up in the member dashboards as they should have been. And - these sales will show NO AFFILIATE assigned to the sale when you contact the Vendor.
|
And to be clear - this is nothing that can be fixed from the Vendor's side - they are not at fault at all! Nope, this is the result of Apple blocking third-party cookies.
|
Oh and contrary to what you may have heard - this only affects Apple devices, not Android, and from what my research has shown - it's mainly Apple mobile devices but also Safari browser as well.
|
Okay, so that is the problem...what on earth is the fix?
|
TBH - we are all guessing at this point. BUT...from research I've read, it's going to take a two-step approach, with actions on both the customer and affiliate side to lessen the effects of this in the short-term, while we experiment with longer-term and hopefully permanent solutions.
|
Cuz no, I am not dumping my business because some jerk with a corporate salary did not take into account the REAL AND BROAD effects of this initiative.
|
So here are the possible short-term options:
Customers:
Make your purchases from your computer, not your Apple mobile devices if you are buying and want to make sure that you get your bonus. Or even if you just want to make sure that the affiliate gets credit for the sale, because hey! Most of the folks reading this are affiliate marketers, too, so let's be good to each other!
|
According to all that I have read, sending your customers to a third-party site is a no-no, so your links need to come from YOUR OWN DOMAIN. That means a link cloaker/ redirect that you host and uses your own domain. You do not want to embed your links in text anymore because that will show the link as being from your email service provider, not your own domain.
Arrgghhhh......
And, yes, I am using links that use this format, so let's see if it works!!
