Just how bad is it to get a little help from
your (automated) friends?

Today I did something that I pretty rarely do - I played hooky!! Today is Opening Day for the Cincinnati Reds (that's baseball if you are not familiar with them!). As the oldest team in baseball, the city celebrates like no other with an Opening Day Parade that includes high school bands, fire trucks, and of course - the Lawn Mower Precision Drill Team, and yes, that is exactly what it sounds like. Kids are given the day off if they want to go (in fact, several grades were there from the school within walking distance of the parade route) and offices around the city were half empty.

it's my first parade though because normally Opening Day is about 2 weeks earlier and the weather is generally miserable but this year's delayed start pushed it back and it was a balmy 65 degrees with a bit of drizzle - totally a fun day!

Google's Stance on AI - It's Really Nothing New!
|
So now, I am back to work and doing a deep-dive research on AI-generated content and Google, and what I am finding is not as scary as what a well-known SEO expert was yammering about earlier in the week.
|
You see, I was concerned for a couple of reasons:
1) I have been using Rytr and Content Gorilla as my 'research assistants' to create a portfolio of material that I can then use to write long-format/pillar posts for a new gluten-free blog I am working on.
|
2) Content Gorilla launched a MASSIVE new version today (I bought my current version in 2020!!) and I did not want to promote anything that was going to cause more problems than it solved!!
|
First up - after spending almost 2 hours digging and reading,
I just purchased my own upgraded version of Content Gorilla :- D
|
In fact, I purchased the FE with Commercial use rights, the second OTO (500k credits) and the final OTO, AI University. And if anyone wants to see the proof - I have posted screenshots of my JVZoo account below ;-)

And here is why:
The article that I read a couple of days ago reported that Google had recently announced that it considers AI-generated content to be the same as spam, and that they would take aggressive action against sites that used AI-generated content - but only if it could be recognized by their spam checkers - human and otherwise.
|
Scary on the surface, but digging down, and doing more research, the full context is that this is really not any different than the Gooogle Webmaster guidelines from day one: Google has never liked machine-generated content because it has been used primarily as a way to circumvent the SERP algorithms by creating spammy websites with zillions of pages.
|
But today's AI is NOT the same as these article-spinners of the past and is used in very legitimate scenarios that are far from spam.

“Artificial intelligence is being used by media, universities, and other organizations for research automation and cross-referencing, crawling and classifying content in many languages to identify emerging trends, generating article and paper summaries, fact-checking, crunching data, and even writing full articles,” she points out.
|

And, basically, that is how I use it as well, and it is a huge time-saver for me. I use it to gather information, facts, and data, and I then write an article based on the research it returns. It can find the data in minutes that I could spend an hour (or more) looking for!

I freely admit that I panicked a bit when I first read the "guru's" newsletter, but after doing my own research? The bottom line is that like so many things - it's not the tool or the concept that is the issue - it is the way it's being used and abused.
If you want to use Content Gorilla to post 5000 pages of AI-generated content every day, yes, you will get penalized - but then, frankly, you deserve to be penalized! LOL sorry but we don't need more crappy, spammy websites clogging up google!!
But if you want to use AI as the FOUNDATION for articles that you will polish and complete for the best reader experience, then I say go for it - and I did!
