Yep, that subject line might be a little dramatic...but then again, maybe not, because the decisions you make in your business - or DON'T make - can make or break your business, and change your life for better or worse.
|
Whether it's a major decision - perhaps pivoting to a new niche - or the cumulative effect of hundreds of tiny daily decisions - ultimately, your ability to make the right decision (and sometimes simply A decision) will determine your long-term success or failure.
|
The bottom line is that many people struggle with making decisions, both large and small to the point of inaction. The infamous 'Paralysis of Analysis' is a very real issue for a vast percentage of business people and probably leads to more business failures than almost anything else.
|
Analyzing the pros and cons of a major decision and then making a decision based on hard data is a good thing. Analyzing that data over and over again, to avoid making that decision? Not such a good thing.
|
Making a zillion tiny decisions that don't really have an impact on your bottom line, while avoiding that BIG decision you know in your heart you need to make is not making decisions the right way - it's avoidance.
I spent many years in a very competitive, male-dominated international industry and had a very successful career. My number one skillset? The ability to make a decision quickly, without hesitation, when it was needed. This gave us the flexibility to pivot quickly to take advantage of changes in the marketplace.

Decisions do not always need to be perfect - sometimes they just need to be made...
|
It's how you stay ahead of the competition. It's how you keep things fresh and relevant.

I might even share how I landed in Cincinnati from Silicon Valley in 1999 - where I knew no one - and had $75 left in my bank account. 2 years later...I bought the home I live in today, and a year later, married Bob. LOL the story sounds like the typical MMO tale - except mine is true!
