The sun is out today but that doesn't mean much as we have barely made it out of the 30s today! Deceptively nippy out there!
|
I made the decision this am to finally move to a new hosting company, it's something that I have been talking about for a while, but kept trying to put off because I just dread these things LOL! I will let you know who it is next week AFTER we make the transition, and I have a better feel for the new set-up.
|
It was a necessary move as we have been experiencing mySQL database errors on a regular basis, which is not a good thing, since this is the database that runs WordPress so it must be running smoothly for the site to function properly. I suspect it is because the site traffic is building (yea organic traffic!) and this host is really not set up for high traffic sites.
|
I will say that I am super impressed with the online chat so far with the new provider as they really seem to know their products, and were able to answer some fairly technical questions. I also liked the fact that I was torn between two products and he suggested the lower-priced one, just add a few extra GBs at about $5 extra per month rather than bumping up to the next tier, which was considerably more. I like having that flexibility - and I liked not being 'upsold' into something I do not need right now!

The other big change is that this is a managed WordPress environment, meaning that it is optimized for WordPress, which should help speed up my sites substantially, as the #1 issue when testing my site right now is the server response time, so that HAS to be improved.
|
We've been talking a lot about SEO and organic traffic lately, and the bottom line is that Google focuses so much on page load speed these days, that it really pays to take the time to optimize your site.
|
And it is something that can change over time, as WordPress makes changes, your theme/site builder adds features, and Google changes its own metrics to measure your site speed, so this is another of those 'evergreen' entrepreneur activities!
|
On a positive note, though, faster load times will make it easier to rank in the SERPs for your keywords and increase the time visitors stay on your site since faster loading pages mean a better user experience, and both of these = more $$$
|
