But I Never Let That Stop Me...
|

Wow! And WOW again - sometimes I get off of one of our Zooms and I am just so amazed at the knowledge and generosity and creativity of our members, it just blows me away!
|
Today was one of those days - it was session 3 of the bonus Boot Camp for Kevin Fahey's Free Traffic Shotgun, and the ideas were flying!! We came up with all kinds of fun ways to work together to generate traffic based on what we are learing from the course and I can't wait to see how this all turns out as we doing things we have never done before!!
|
One of the things we talked about today is the importance of keeping your visitors on your site as long as possible - in my case, I do a LOT of Zoom sessions and to keep the hosting costs down, I upload the videos to Dropbox, and the visitor can view the videos by coming to my website, clicking on the link, which will then take you to Dropbox, where you can either download or view the video.
While this is great at keeping my hosting and bandwidth costs down - it's LOUSY from a marketing standpoint because the visitor only actually spends a few SECONDS on the website.
Now, from the marketing standpoint, this means that I have a very limited window for the visitor to notice anything else on my site...and that is not good...BUT what is really, really bad is something called...BOUNCE RATE.

Bounce rate is the length of time between the time a visitor arrives on your site and the time they leave, and Google uses this as an indicator of how your visitors feel about your website. Fast bounce off to another site? Google is going to think your visitors don't love you and that is not good!
The bounce rate actually plays into the complex search engine results placement algos and can lower your ranking in the results if you have high bounce rates.
And that is exactly the signal I have been giving to Google by sending my visitors to Dropbox to view our Zoom replays. But to be very honest, with the number of Zooms I have right now, Vimeo would have cost me a fortune, and DropBox was really the only easy-to-use and cost-effective solution I had found to date.
However, VidMingo recently launched, and from what we are seeing so far, this one is a winner! It is an all-in-one solution with hosting, video creation (Loom/Camtasia replacement) and an embeddable player.
It will take some time to get everything moved over, but I am thrilled with this new option. And for the record, I do have all of the Zooms on a back hard-drive, so we are protected even if something happens, and to be honest, I have had videos get mangled on DropBox and other platforms, so I always have a backup somewhere!
But the bottom line is this: any time you are hosting your content OFF your website - whether it is your courses on Teachable or Zooms on Dropbox - you are driving traffic AWAY from your website, and you lessen your opportunity to make another sale AND Google is going to slap you a bit for every second less that the visitor is on your site, so take the BOUNCE RATE into consideration when you set up your pages - especially your delivery and download pages ;-)

Oh, and if you want to check your own bounce rates, pageviews and more - try the free version of Monster Insights from the WordPress repository - there is a paid version that does give you a lot more data, but for most of us - the free one is more than enough!

Ok, that should not be something so unusual that you get it excited and start shouting...but sadly, it is! This is an excellent product and checks all the boxes for me for not only the screen recording functionality but for the embed capability & storage
|
I am not a fan of 'lifetime' memberships, but this service has actually been around for a while, and already has several thousand customers. At this price, it is a viable option that will let me drop the higher-priced Zoom plan that I have. It will also let me get my videos embedded on my site, and off Dropbox, which is something I have wanted to do for a while for several reasons. And as I mentioned above from a marketing standpoint - it is just not the smartest move to be sending customers off to Dropbox when Google wants them to stay on your site!!
