Today, I spent a good portion of the morning going over my list of possible evergreen products, partly because of the Boot Camp project we have going and partly because this is an important part of my long-term strategy for 2022 and beyond.
|
And as I went through the list of possible products and services - it got me to thinking about the differences from an affiliate standpoint between 'evergreen' promotions and 'current launch' promos, and how these differences can affect your bottom line.
The truth is - it's a juggling act....
|
Evergreen products generally fall into 2 different categories - 1) those that are essential services, such as hosting, WordPress themes, and autoresponder services, that are recurring purchases, and 2) those products and services that are of interest to your audience and are from companies or vendors that you know are stable and here for the 'long haul', but are one-time purchases. SEO services, templates and courses are a few products that would fall into this category.

As an affiliate - the concept of promoting products that pay you month after month is enticing - building up a foundation of revenue that comes in every month, and (hopefully) builds every month is a solid business plan!
|
BUT....most affiliates ignore evergreen products because they pay less than those shiny new products that launch every day, and that IS a mistake.
|
Yes, your host or WordPress theme may only pay 15% to 30% commission - but that can add that up at the end of the year, and it becomes significant revenue with some consistent work on your part.
Let's say that you have a great hosting company, and you include that offer in the PS of your newsletter and a sidebar banner on your website. A single sign-up might only pay you $5 but what if you sign up 3 people a month? In 12 months that is $180 per month in recurring revenue! And what if you actually focused on promoting it once a month and signed up 10 new customers? That would be $600 per month in recurring revenue that you barely touched!
Now, what if you had a couple of these evergreen recurring promotions, a nice mix of higher-paying products such as a couple of solid, good selling courses, and a couple of lower commission but recurring services that you could promote with ads on your website and that PS in your newsletter once a week?
|
And yes, those evergreen products can and SHOULD include your own products and courses as well. As content creators, we often forget to promote our own older products and this is a HUGE mistake because there is an excellent chance that your audience and grown significantly since your original launch ;-)
|
It's a longer-term strategy than promoting whatever today's hot launch is - but it works, and it provides an additional revenue stream that will make sales for you every single week without fail.
|
And I can honestly tell you that the concept of multiple, recurring revenue streams - something I learned decades ago from the MLM world - changed my life forever. And we will be discussing this more in upcoming newsletters - and no, you do not need to jump into network marketing to profit from the business model ;-)
